Hypnosis may actually increase the potential for error in recalling events.

Many studies have claimed that hypnosis creates false memories. Through hypnosis, one might believe that something happened when in actual it might have not happened. Moreover, many studies have shown that even if a person was warned that he/she might have pseudo-memories when hypnotized, hence still those people made false memories.

Based on these evidences, hypnotizing Maria to recall for details cannot be considered authentic as she might generate false memories.
