    In Greek mythology Atreus was the Mycenaean king, son of Pelops, father of Agamemnon and Menelaus, which is why they are called Atreidai. Out of revenge on his brother, who seduced his wife and devised his murder, he killed his two sons and treated himself with their flesh. Still, Atreus was later killed by the third son.
