How often dose earth's magnetic field change direction?

    It changes direction every 200,000 years

    It reverses every 200,000 years but it varies. In the span of a 72 million years it changed 5 times. The most recent one was 780,000 years ago so we are overdue for one. Some people theorize that the poles melting are the early stages of the field changing.
