John McWhorter is an American linguist, born 1965. Through his academic work he mostly focuses on Creole language forms and it's relationship with other languageges.

He calls texting a "fingered speech". It has its own distinct rules and structure. For him texting presents a linguistic miracle which is inventing its own grammar. This opinion is contrary to the opinion of texting as a degradation of a modern written language. For him, texting much more resembles spoken language. And far from being ruined, language and texting is a work is developing and progressing all the time, but now at a faster pace.
