When a society as a whole changes, the change is called as the Social Change. Population growth and composition can be some very common sources of social change. Cultural and technology, natural environment and social conflicts also bring about cultural changes.

People who make societies are often resistant to change. So societies take a long time to change. There are many reasons for resistance to change. That may include non reinforced reward systems, Fear of Failure, politics, climate of mistrust, lack of surety or certainty, etc. When such resistances confront people, societies are less likely to change, but social change like industrial revolutions, abolition of slavery, feminist movement, etc, comes gradually in years.
