Is efficiency naturally contradictory to democracy?

In my opinion, yes. But it's for the best.

Explanation:

Efficiency is the ability to achieve a certain task with minimum time and effort. In term of political system, democracy might not be the most efficient compared to other alternative.

Let me elaborate.

- In a country ruled by kings or dictators, the way law being passed is very simple.

step 1: The leader wants the law.

step 2: It will happen by the end of the day. No one can prevent it from happening.

Simple and efficient.

- In a country which implement democracy. The way law being passed has to go through a lot of process. From proposed by the president, being reviewed by the legislative branches, waiting for some sort of adjustment, being thrown back again to the president, etc.

This make a law need a lot of time before it can eventually be passed. 'in other word, very inefficient.'

But such inefficiency is needed to prevent the leader of the country from having too much power over the citizens. The inefficiency in democracy is basically what make it possible for us to throw out our leaders in case they are becoming tyrannical.
