A large contingent of Choctaw Indians stayed behind to fight for their land is a FALSE statement.

    Explanation:

The Choctaw Indians didn't fight for their land instead their chief signed a Treaty ceding the land to the United State government. For a long time, the Choctaw had lived in the Mississippi area farming and cultivating the land producing all sorts of vegetables and crops. They didn't even feel the need to claim the land as private property.

However, as the United State gained more power, citizens and political people felt the need to confiscate land from Indians residing in the Mississippi area. They presented overdue bills to the Indians which demanded prompt payment and since they couldn't pay they had to cede their land.
