    He was a Mexican priest and one of Mexico's most important independence fighters. The Mexican is a national hero. He joined the uprising in 1810 and after the death of the leader of the revolution came to the fore of the liberation movement. He submitted to the First Mexican National Congress (1813) the Nation's Program. He was proclaimed generalisimus and executive power holder. He enforced liberation from slavery and issued a Declaration of Sovereignty and Independence. When trying to liberate Valladolid, he was defeated, captured and executed.
