    The framers of the constitution created the electoral college because they did not trust the citizens to make sound, objective and unbiased decision in choosing a president so they created the electoral college which is believed to be made up of enlightened individuals who can make objective decisions that will be beneficial to the country and its citizenry with the responsibility of deciding who becomes the president by vote. In was believed by the framers of the constitution that the citizens or general population can easily be swayed by sentiment, grammatical eloquence and powerful campaign tools into voting an individual who may not be qualified for the post of the president, hence the establishment of the electoral college in electing the president
