Strain theory is a term that has founded Robert K. Merton. He said that this theory claimed that society can encourage deviation.

    Explanation:

His theory of deviation says that culture is a set of norms that lead society. This is the way Merton wants to say that not everybody can achieve the same goal using the same chances because not everyone has the same chances.

Term of strain theory represents a way to show that society and its structure can make a person commit a crime. It represents a social level and how a person is experiencing his needs.

    Explanation:

Society places a high value on certain goals. However, not everyone can achieve these goals. Nonetheless, society expects them to meet these goals and society judges them according to how well they do. When they fail, individuals fall victim to anomie. They are left without sufficient guidelines for behavior, thus confusing both the individuals and society.
