    World War I had a great influence on British society particularly on women. Throughout the war, women were engaged in various factories which provided them with some wages as well as freedom. During the 1930's, women became more confident and empowered and their new independence reflected in their fashion. In the factories, women could not carry heavy outfits thus they opted for short length skirts and short hair. After the end of the war, this became a fashion and resulted in independent 'flapper' appeared on the scene.
