What does it mean to say that audience engage in a mental dialogue with the speaker as they listen to a speech? What implications does this mental give and take hold for effective persuasive speaking?

    a. When the audience are listening to a speech, individuals within the audience will evaluate the speaker's speech delivery, supporting facts or evidence, credibility, and the langauge used.

    As they listen and evaluate what is being said they may start to have their own internal argument regarding what the speaker is communicating.

    b. The speaker during their speech preparation should gauge their audience and try to find more about them, their feelings towards the issue and their attitude so that they can predict how they may respond to the speech.
