Why did the first people trade things

    To gain resources other people had that they didn't I'd imagine.

    The First Nations people were trading furs, which they could easily trap, for tools made from metal. At the time they did not have the technology to forge iron. Fabric and glass beads were also popular trade items ... It was particularly valued because its pelt could be made into felt which was used to make hats.
