It is an inter-governmental organization consisting of ten Southeast Asian countries which promotes cooperation and also facilitates political, economic, social, cultural, educational integration among its member countries as well as other countries of the world.

    It is in friendly terms with other countries including United States but it tries to keep all the other countries from having much influence the ASEAN countries.
