In 1864, the year the great Civil Rights Act was passed, only 18 percent of white people of America claimed to have a friend who was African American. the African Americans were left out as foreigners and badly treated as domestic servants which made many think if the slavery was still happening with a different approach, this outraged many African American activists who were leading a non violent protesting movement called the Civil Rights Movement.
