On 10 December 1898, the Paris Treaty ended the Spanish-American War under which Spain relinquished all claims against Cuba, the Philippine Islands, Puerto Rico, and Guam, to the United States and United Staes got the control over the Philippines by paying $20 million tp Spain. Therefore the Spanish American war just replace d the colonial master.
