    In the time of William James all motivated behavior was said to have stemmed from emotions of a person. This led to his main contribution to field of psychology known as functionalism in that he says that all objects and actions must serve some function to its surroundings and to what it does its acts.

    The functional belief was to curb a sense of being dictated b emotions and to make motivated behavior a part of something that can be functional with the overall behavior of a person.
