Local production within sub-Saharan Africa is very low, which means that its economy is deficient and the population has little supply of local products and services. As a result, sub-Saharan Africa needs to import large quantities of finished goods and services, which generates a large economic expenditure.

Sub Saharan countries are geographically the area of the continent that lies to the South of the Sahara desert. The western powers have also tried to control who runs African countries.
