The X and Y chromosomes determines the sex of mammals. Men have 46XY and women have 46XX chromosomes and these chromosomes are in pairs of 23. The female have XX, if the egg receives another X from the male sperm it will result in XX and a female is formed. But if the egg receives Y chromosome from the sperm XY if formed and that is male. The Y chromosome is the carrier of the gene that forms the testis.
