There are several mythology surrounding the rivers. For example, the Hindus in India consider the River as a Direct personification of Goddess Ganga. There is also a myth which stated that Ganges river was created from Lord Shiva's hair to meet the needs of the civilians

This caused a perception that the Ganges has some sort of healing power that can cure them from various type of illness. It is also believed that bathing in that river could facilitate the liberation from the cycle of life and death.
