    The USA took control of Japan on behalf of the Supreme Command of Allied Power post World War 2. Many economic conglomerantes were disbanded as they supported the Japanese expansion. Landowners lost power and much of the land was given to farmers, encouraged to produce food. Capitalism was encouraged. This was to ensure the communism would not spread to Japan and allow the USA to have a base in Asia for years to come.
