After Byzantine Empire fell, the empire suffered religious quarrels, street riots, palace intrigues and several foreign dangers. During the period of High Middle Ages, the Empire started to decline with huge territorial losses.

Byzantine Empire became drastically weakened after the defeat against the Normans.

In the fifteenth century, Byzantine territory hardly exceeded Constantinople. In 1453, the Ottomans conquered Constantinople and the Byzantine Empire came to an end. It is now known as Istanbul.
