U. S. involvement in the Vietnam was blamed for the surge in the illegal heroin which was being smuggled into States. The Central Intelligence Agency to aid the U. S. allies, sets up the charter airline which is Air America in order to transport the raw opium from the Burma and the Laos. Also, some of opium was transported to the Marseille by the Corsican gangsters which was then refined into the heroin and then shipped to U. S via French connection. The heroin's number addicts in U. S. reaches the estimated 750,000.

In october 1970, legendary singer named Janis Joplin was found dead at the Hollywood's Landmark Hotel which became the victim of heroin overdose.
