Lawrence Kohlberg was conducting a scientific opinion based research. This is because, his research methods were based on sampling of the opinions of the 72 boys inorder to get their views on the moral views which they hold there to. He beleive that the moral view of someone changes as he grows older.

His findings shows that, people progresses from pre-conventional level where the child's moral views are externally influenced to conventional level whereby the child's moral view is tied to personal and societial relationships he had.

Finally, the last level being post-conventional level whereby persons moral vews is based on his life principles, values, opinions and rights.
