    In the 2000 election the popular vote actually favored Al Gore, but the electoral vote was won by George W. Bush, he in the end served two terms and after him Obama entered office.

    The defect of popular vs electoral vote causes that in several ocassion a candidate can have the majority of the votes by the population but end up not being elected.
