The main references of the Salem Witch Trials contribute to the reports on these infamous trials. These references comprise of formal government accounts as well as various books, journals, and reports written by the several people who were involved in the trials.

However in the hope to prevent further seizures and to tranquilize the hysteria, Governor Phips forbade the printing of all publications about the Salem Witch Trials in late October of 1692.

According to the historians, the majority of the primary references were decisive of these trials and made strong arguments on how these trials were conducted which was subject of debate.
