What did the United states hope to achieve with its air in Vietnam?

The United States hoped that North Vietnam would stop insurgency and communist idealogy in the South Vietnam with its air war.

In the Air War of Vietnam, also known as Operation Rolling Thunder, the US hoped to 1) rise the morale of South Vietnam, 2) stop North Vietnam from spreading communism to South Vietnam, 3) destroy North Vietnam's transport and defenses, and 4) halt the flow of men and material to South Vietnam.
