Principles of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder include: exposure to a traumatic event (especially life threatening events), reliving the event (by memory or in dreams), avoiding any reminders of the event, loss of interest in activities, mood swings, anxiety, agitation, loss of interest in social interaction, and/or insomnia for at least thirty days after the trauma.
