When the framers wrote the United States Constitution, they wrote it so it would last. This way they made the amending document a different task. Because of this, the Constitution only has 27 amendments including the Bill of Rights.

To amend the Constitution, the idea must have a major impact that affects all Americans lives, otherwise, the amendment won't pass.

A proposed amendment must be passed by 2/3 of both houses, then ratified by legislatures of 3/4 of states. Another option is to start the amendment process by 2/3 of the state's legislatures asks the Congress to call a Constitutional Convention.
