The plan of Columbus to acquire goods from Asia less expensively was very simple. He was going to find a direct sea root to Asia, thus no taxes will be paid to anyone nor there will be any dangers for the ships. While this plan was simple and was going to be very effective, Columbus didn't discovered a direct sea root to Asia, but instead he discovered new continents, the Americas, which were standing on the way between Europe and Asia. It all turned out good though as the Americas provided lot of wealth and goods for the Spanish, so in a way the mission was completed just with a major twist in it.
