Aeschere plotted to kill Grendel and his mother,

    Explanation:

Æschere is King Hrothgar's trusted advisor, however, being a very integral man who cares about the people of his region, he participates in the conspiracy that aims to defeat Grendel and his mother and rid the kingdom of the two monsters.

When Grendel is finally killed, his mother is furious and promises to take revenge on everyone who caused her son's death. Because of this desire for revenge, and knowing that she was also planning her death, she violently kills Æschere and makes his death a warning to those who try to kill her.
