    There are many functions and purposes of law in our society.

    Four principal purposes and functions are:

    establishing standards maintaining order resolving disputes and protecting liberties and rights.

    There are four different types of laws for protection:

    criminal civil common statute.

    The laws serve as a norm of conduct for the people living in the society. The law is important because it acts as a guideline as to what is accepted in society. Without the law, there would be conflicts between social groups and communities.
