Why did some soldiers take pity on the indians, and why their acts of sympathy often severely punished?

    some soldiers took petty on some indians because, the indians really didn't do any thing wrong.

    Despite the things that their superior said to justify the attack towards the indian, in the end the soldiers could see that the indians are fellow human being and they cant imagine having to experience the treatment, this is why they take pity to the indians.

    Their superior do not want this type of mentality in their soldiers because it make them less efficient in the battle. This is why the sympathy often severly punished.
