WWI started in 1914 between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, but eventually grew to involve 32 different countries.

The Central Powers were: Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, the Ottoman Empire, and Germany. The Allied were Britain, the U. S., France, Italy, and Russia.

After the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife in 1914 by a Serbian national, war was started. A domino effect of declaration of war began. A few days after the assassination, Germany declared war on Russia for supporting Serbia, then declared war on France. Countries began to take sides and form alliances.
