What was the reason for the meeting between Lee and Grant at McCLlean House in Appomattox?

    Lee had rejected the idea to start a guerrilla war because it would cause more pain and suffering for a lost cause. Grant proposed terms of surrender and he received what he asked for. It has been called "The Gentlemen's Agreement"
