Parliamentary procedure is the body of rules, ethics and customs governing meetings and other operations of clubs, organizations, legislative bodies and other deliberative assemblies.

Parliamentary procedure is a body of rules that is designed to govern meetings.

The basic structure is that motions are put forward, seconded, discussed, and then voted on by the membership that is present.

This allows for orderly discussion and calm deliberation and ultimately permits motions to be approved or denied by the majority.
