    (A) Both train and boat transportation had steam engines. Boats were most common in the South, altough later they used trains on a smaller scale. (C and E) Both lowered the cost of transporting goods, and carried goods more quickly than earlier methods of transportation had. Robert Fulton invented the steamboat, that, in 1807, took passengers from New York City to Albany. The railroad and esteam engines were invented in 1830.
