Answer: The Reconquista was a movement to drive Muslims from Spain. It resulted in the creation of a mostly Christian kingdom there, as well as the establishment of the new Christian kingdom of Portugal.

The Reconquista was a period in the history of the Iberian Peninsula, roughly between 711 and 1492, culminating with the fall of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada. During this period, Christian kings wanted to drive Muslims from the peninsula. Towards the end of this period, Christopher Columbus discovered America, and this launched the era of Spanish and Portuguese imperialism.
