The correct answer would be tergenerational mobility. Social mobility stands for the change of status or position in the society of an individual or a certain group of people. The types of social mobility that can occur from a generation to the other vary according to the time and place we are looking into. Generally, social mobility happens more often in developed countries than in underdeveloped countries where opportunities of climbing the social ladder can be scarce. In a developed country, you can find two types of social mobility occurring from one generation to the other.

    1) Horizontal mobility stands for the change in one's position without changing the vertical position on the stratification system. That means that someone could change their occupation, their religion or political alignment or even the city or country they live on maintaining the same benefits and disadvantages of their position on the social scale. For example, the offspring of Catholic parents could change religions and become a Protestant or choose a different political party than their parents or grandparents. That would be a case of horizontal mobility.

    2) Vertical mobility refers to the change of an individual from one class or social stratum to another. For example, in developed countries, the descendants of firts migrants often achieve ascendant vertical mobility. Migrant's children often access higher education than their parents what allows them to obtain better job position in where they earn more money., Descendant vertical mobility can occur as well. In that cases, the second generation of a certain group, or an individual, can find themselves in a lower position in the social spectrum than the first generation. If the country's economy goes bad or the individual takes bad choices they can find themselves loosing acquisitive power, the access to certain symbolic assets as education or cultural appropriation or loosing their previous social status.
