The answer is: a promise by the United States not to invade Cuba again

The Cuban missile crisis of 1962 was one of most tense moments of the Cold War. This event almost brought the United States and the Soviet Union to the brink of war.

As such, discussions were made in order to put an end to this crisis, culminating with a secret agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union, in which the Soviet Union agreed to remove the missiles in Cuba in exchange for the removal of US missiles in Turkey and Italy as well as making a public announcement that the United States will not promise not to invade Cuba again.
