    They viewed him as a drunk person because on March 4, 1865, Andrew Johnson drank several glasses of whiskey to stave off what might have been nerves or a fever. Everything went very well except that the Vice President Elect was too drunk to perform his duties & disgraced himself & the Senate by making a drunken, foolish speech.
