    Yes. The role of the Judiciary is not only concerned with punishment, it is also concerned with the interpretation of was and how they punish crime and protect individual rights. The Criminal Courts prosecute suspects of crimes and Civil courts regulate interactions and settle disputes between private individual and/or parties. Furthermore, it can be argued that criminal courts protect the rights of victims as they provide redress and or mitigation for offenses they have been inflicted upon. They also protect alleged wrong-doers as they are to uphold the rights they have under the Constitution and other federal laws.
