Ernesto Miranda was arrested in 1966 under the charges of abduction and sexually assault of an 18 year old woman. After being examined by police, Miranda presented the police with both verbal and written confession, however, in the whole process he was not notified of his right to a lawyer or legal counselor which is the violation of the 5th and 6th Amendment right. Miranda confession was used at the trial and he was found guilty and sentenced 20 to 30 years of imprisonment.
