The Sepoy Rebellion, also known as the Indian Rebellion of 1857, moved Indians further away from independence. Indians fought on both sides of the war marking high casualties of both soldiers and civilians.

The rebellion resulted in British victory, famine, disease spread, the end of the Mughal Empire, and rule transferred to the British.
