    After the council in carthage had failed to support hannibal and a reinforcing army had been beaten at the metaurus Rome invaded africa under Scipio Romes best general who had conquered the carhaginian part of spain beating the local armies at battles including Baecula. Hannibal met him at Zama and was defeated
