The Portuguese learned from the Portuguese explorer who was called Bartolomeu Dias. He was the first European mariner to tour the southern tip of Africa.

This paved the way for a sea route from Europe to Asia and subsequent breakthrough in trade alliances. He opened the door to increased trade with India and other Asian powers.
