    When a non-resident marries an American citizen, he or she doesnot become an American citizen right away but improves the chances of geting a U. S green card and later obtaining the citizenship. The fiances is eligible for a K-1 visa that will enable him/her to enter the U. S for marriage. A petition to the immigration authorities should be filed too in ths case.
