    I believe the answer is: it was the first representative assembly, or legislature. It marked the beginning of self-government in colonial America

    the creation of the legislative body enable colonists in america to establish their own law. This is a very integral part of self-government because they are no longer dependent on the British empire to determine the policies that they must do.
