A prejudice is a preconceived opinion an individual holds, that is not founded on reason or common sense. There are different factors that play a part in forming prejudices.

Prejudice is sometimes the result of the individual's fear of diversity. The person only feels safe when surrounded by people that share similar characteristics and belong to the same social group. Anyone that is diverse from this definition is not understood and the prejudice is formed.

Another factor is the generalizations done by society that can end up forming prejudices against specific groups or people. Some generalized concepts against an ethnic or religious group, for example, can create prejudices against them.
