    The civilization of the Indus Valley used barns to:

    - Store the reserves of the city.

    - Accumulate the surplus grain. People ground the grain in flour and it could have been used to negotiate with other cities.

    - Protect the ritual bath (building of the city) of priest of attacks and floods.
